Each person brings a wealth of their own perspectives, talents, desires, and background to Barcelona– and the career stories that make up the tapestry of our teams are incredibly diverse. There is no ‘one path’, instead there are near infinite ‘paths’ that someone may choose to take: from a vibrant part-time job on the side to a fully-fledged career in restaurant leadership. Here are a few of those paths:
Paula joined Barcelona as a server in 2018 after having run a successful baking catering company. It quickly became clear that we’d found someone exceptional. Paula went on to train other servers at our openings in Philadelphia and Denver, and was promoted to be a manager of Barcelona in 2019. In 2020, Paula was promoted to the AGM and was subsequently promoted GM in the same year.

Romir started with Barcelona in 2007 as a server, working with us across Connecticut. Romir has always been the person who makes his team feel comfortable to ask any question that’s on their mind– and through that, he has been the source of so many people learning the “Barcelona Way”. He was a leader before his management days began. Romir’s career has taken him to Stamford, where he was quickly promoted to Assistant General Manager, to New Haven as General Manager, and is currently the General Manager of Barcelona in Fairfield. In a restaurant that has been a staple in the community for decades, Romir has placed his restaurant even deeper in the hearts of Fairfield.

Abbie started with us in 2016. Spending time in Reston and Cathedral before finding her home in Barcelona Passyunk, and now at our Restaurant Support Center. For years she was one of our top performing in restaurant beverage managers, and Philadelphia is by far the most challenging beverage market we have. Abbie is a true wine geek, in her ‘spare time’ she is studying for her WSET diploma (an incredible challenge). Abbie now serves as our Beverage Department Manager in our Support Center.

Jake started with us in Charlotte in 2021 as a line cook. With a background in kitchens from Florida to Chicago, he took on Charlotte and quickly found a home at Barcelona. Jake has worked his way up through the ranks by mastering each station and showing commitment to the evolution and betterment of the restaurant. His dedication is what resulted in his rapid promotion to Sous chef. As of late Chef Jake, is fine tuning his leadership skills and has just been promoted to executive sous chef.
